My SE V800 is 18months old and has started to be difficult to switch on and
then after a short period of use, shuts down with seemingly random key
presses. It's not the battrey as I've swapped with its twin. Anyone else had
this problem?

exactly the same issue here. Bought it something like 18 months ago too and i quite often
find it switched off in my pocket with no particular reason...
