Default Sign a new contract or wait?

We started with nxtl last year and are pleased with our service. We have 3
phones and pay about $96 per month, including all the taxes etc. Present
plan is National Shared Value 300 @ 39.99 with 2 of the phones as add-ons @
$20 each. If we stay with the present plan, nxtl has sent out an offer give
us a discount of 10% on our rate plan for 3 months if we re-up by 4-30-04.
We aren't planning to to buy a new phone. I wouldn't mind getting net
capability which we don't have now. Any hints or tips on negotiating more
than the 10%, or trying to get the net capability for free, on the basis of
what we pay per month and having a good payment record?

Or, would it be smarter to not sign up now, but just wait around until they
might or might not send out a better inducement to renew the contract
sometime in the future? (such as more services, or lower price, but not
necessarily a better phone, we're happy with the i95)

Call them and ask for it. Tell them (nicely) that you are out of contract
and can take your number somewhere else. I've been able to negotiate extra
bonus minutes by doing this.

Follow-up: Nextel called me with an offer I didn't really need, but then I
talked to cust svc and they removed the $1 mo charge for voicemail, got the
2 extra phones added on for $15 each instead of $20 each, 100 more minutes,
and basic nextel online free. Guess I'm set for the next year!
