Default Slider: New Virgin Mobile Phone

I was in my local Best Buy last night and saw Virgin Mobile has a new
phone available. Its called the "Slider" by Kyocera. It was so new
that there was not a display model out for it yet. Does anyone know
anything about this phone?
It is Virgin's first phone with a full color screen.

Eric

If you are at all familiar with kyocera's s14 flip or the 1155 model, the
reception is about the same possibly slighty... (only slightly) better. My
company has been testing them for a few months now & we anticipate putting
them on our shelves for sale within the next few weeks. (Metro PCS)

From my use & experiance with the phone, its VERY cute & even though I am
anti kyocera this phone might cause me to change my tune. It has a lot of
fun features. Cool sounds & games. Remember the fun and addiction of Tetris?
Well you can relive it again. It comes preloaded in the phone.

The phone is quite small & the keypad is kept coverd until you use the
phone. You slide it up to access the keypad. It also has speaker phone. I'm
not real crazy about that feature because sometimes it doesn't work that
great. Volume wasn't always as loud as I needed it to be in some situations.

The display is great. 65,000 colors. Looks great!!! Resolution 128x128
3.5hr talk time on battery.... I found it to be more like 2 hr talk time. On
average
It has an alarm, calculator, calender, polyphonic ringtones & all kinds of
other features.

Check out the web site
www.sliderstyle.com
you can see the slide in action.

4 the record, the reason I am anti kyocera is because of my experiance with
their overall quality.
From the service standpoint. All too often I see the same problems occuring
with the phones. We have had 3 phones on our network & while the frequency
of the issues seems to have improved, that might be due to the fact we sell
less of them so we don't see as many come back.

With the 2235 Kyocera there was the defective LCD
ok I understand every now and again a lot will go out where
somethign went bad, things aren't perfect all the time.
they corrected the error by replacing the phone with the 1155 model
(per our comp request)

With the 1155 I have seen both keypad, speaker, mic, programing & still
while less frequent lcd issues.
granted our customers abuse treat thier phones much more abusivly
than the average cellular user
not to mention use their equipment about 3x as much (flat rate
unlimited calling). So its expected
that we will see more service issues than other cellular companies
but to have such a high volume
of the same issues. Keypad & Speaker being most common. We had
several defective right out
of the box. "Service Required"

We have carried 2 other brands on our system Sony & Nokia & while Sony had
its own issues
(quick dying battery, deleting phone book enteries, charge port becoming
loose, keypad malfunct)
the consistancy was not nearly as excessive as the kyocera. We stoped
selling the Sony when we got the Nokias and I think adding the Nokias to our
line was a great decision. Sure we still get the phones back but its quite
rare that the phones requiring service are in like new condition. Most are
filled with dirt or are banged up or show signs of water damage. The Nokias
seem to put up with a lot. I own one myself & I know what I have done to
mine & I am suprised its still working.
Currently I have the 3585 model but I am thinking of upgrading to the 3586i
(color screen). The reception on the phone is great in addition so is the
talk time. I use to have to cary a spare battery for my kyocera. My Nokia
last me all day.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Nokia 3586i?

Same thing with my wife's Sprint 2255. (Basically they're the same model.)

I do, however, think quality's gotten a lot better. My 2325 is solid and
bug-free.

I forgot to mention that even the S14 has had lcd & keypad issues
I am just frustrated with the company. I have heard lots of good things about the slider though so my fingers are crossed.
