Hi,

* Is it possible to have a single pager that works
in the UK, rest of Europe and the States and if so do you
have to phone the network and tell them prior to travelling abroad?

* Also, I've seen some advertisments for two way pagers - do
these work on the same principle as a mobile phone in that they have
to keep 'checking in' as the user moves about so the network knows
where they are or are they 'silent' like the old pager network ?

* If they do have to keep checking in what is the battery life like?

Never found one years ago when I needed one. Pagers are rather rare
in the UK and Europe these days.

Why not use tri-band GSM phones and text-messaging? These will work all
around the world -- GSM is available in over 180 different countries. Many
GSM provider provide roaming services which means you can just take your
phone into a country and it'll automatically log on to the foreign network
and you'll be able to use the phone just as you would if you were at home.

Or have you got a reason for requiring a pager?

The Iridium system had a pager, after being saved, I am noit sure if Pager
is still available. Being Satellitte the cost is rather outta site. Get a
Motoroloa V100 Device they came out with a TriBand version as well. They are
available all over cheap. As a phone it just never cut it. But as a texting
device cant be beat.
