Unfortunately my experience in the past with Wanadoo (Freeserve) was disappointing, always getting cut off or not being able to connect at all. Once bitten and all that, but I know that in other parts of the country folk have had better service. -- http://www.copelands.plus.com/val/ |

Agreed. I have used (up to a year ago) Freeserve, rather than Wanadoo. I have also used (since March 2003) Plus.Net and for the months when I had both, binary newsgroups were better on Freeserve than Plus.Net but I think it likely reversed now. The lack of hassle using other mail servers is a plus for P.N, as Wanadoo has some unwritten restrictions which they carried on from the Freeserve days. As Brian says, Wanadoo does look good value for money and if people are happily using it, then fine. Checking the support numbers might be worthwhile as the use of a premium rate number isn't impossible (no, not looked) with Wanadoo, whereas P.N uses 0845... Peter M. |

As I said, I'm not interested in 1MB. I've signed up for 512K Uncapped from PlusNet for £21.99. With Wanadoo I'd likely only get 512K and pay more for it. I'd rather have a service without limits, than one with speedstripes. Dave. |

I went round a "customer's" house, his Wanadoo dialup was not working. It was obvious it was his dialup settings, and he did not know what they were.. Easy phone wannadoo and retrieve the details, after 45 minutes on hold on a premium rate number, they gave me the details, of which both the phone number and password they gave me were totally incorrect!!! (in the end I managed to guess the correct settings, from the customers scribbled notes...). Totaly bunch of muppets... -- "This dog don't give a feck..." |

I have recently changed from PlusNet to Wanadoo myself here. A long an sorry saga which resulted from me moving house. Anyway, I found the registration with Wanadoo totally painless, I was up and running on broadband in only 4 days. I initially used dialup while I was waiting, and that also worked well, much better than the PlusNet service at that time. Newsgroups are better, and I haven't had any mailing problems either - I have done, and still do with PlusNet. I get an almost full 1mb service, but I never got a full 512k at the old house either, so I suspect we don't have a perfect exchange here. The 2GB capping is perfect for me, although 1Gb wouldn't have been enough, I downloaded 1.1GB in my first month. I have to admit that the support from PlusNet is indeed superb, but in the 10 months I've been with them, it has been needed quite frequently. > Also is a PCI modem better than a USB modem (and a 1 port router better than > both)? Absolutely. Right from the start I got a 4 port Ethernet router/modem, which has proven to be a good choice. It doesn't require any installation, and I always feel that USB is really meant for peripherals and not networking. I have two computers here, and with the 4 port router I can use both on the Internet, and indeed even network the two. -- Andy Hewitt ** FAF#1, (Ex-OSOS#5) - FJ1200 ABS Honda Civic 16v: Windows free zone (Mac G5 Dual Processor) http://www.thehewitts.plus.com |

I wonder in what context you say that? It seems to me that this probably reflects the experience of those who use this NG. Certainly there are rather more satisfied Plusnet customers on here, and I include myself, than other ISPs but to say they dominate is hardly true. Personally I have found Plusnet to be reliable and responsive most of the time. The amount of service information and ticketing system that is on line is a big advantage over other ISPs. Buying on price alone is seldom a wise move. |
