Default BT Voyager USB ADSL

I would appreciate any advice on the below, as I'm totally confused to why
this is happening, I'm using a BT Voyager USB ADSL modem to access
broadband, however when I try to close the connection the icon which is
located on the bottom right hand corner of the desktop is still visible,
however the connection is closed, as you can't access the internet..etc

The above happens every time I want to switch off the PC, and I have to hard
boot the PC all the time As it hangs on saving you settings, I have looked
in task manager - processes to find any process I can close down, however I've
not been able to find one.

On rare occasions it states closing connection tray and 'Msimn.exe is
mentioned; if this is MS Messenger I don't use it.

I would be grateful for any help as this has been happening with two PC's
including this one, which all use Windows XP, which is not networked.
(There are no new drivers, I have looked).

I have checked the PC using AdAware and virus scanned the PC, however found
nothing, and also checked in device manager and have found no errors.

When checking the Event Log the errors in summary are:

Event ID: 1002 (THIS IS THE MAIN ERROR)

Description:

Hanging application taskmgr.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, hang module hungapp,
version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

I would be grateful for any advice with the above.

Regards,

Cath

That's MS Outlook Express. Seeing you have two PCs, have you considered
(and rejected) networking them to share a router ? ADSL modem/routers are
quite inexpensive now (I am about to buy a few for clients) at <40 pounds
(eg from ebuyer.com) and would allow sharing the connection all the time.

I used USB (the Alcatel 'stingray') some 30 months ago and had many probs
but everything changed when I switched to ethernet link into a router. It
isn't expensive to get a network card (a fiver, perhaps less) for a PC...

Get a router as the person below has stated. I had endless problems with my
BT vogager modem disconnecting and since I got the router it stays connected
all the time + I can share the connection with other PC's in the home. You
can pick them up for less than £60 now.
