I got a v551 phone, theres no logo from rogers on it. like others I
have. bought it on the street. I want to unlock it. I have a usb cable
I borrowed from a friend. How do I know its locked or not? I use it as
a pay as you go phone, I want to use a cheaper carrier , as a card
phone also.
can some tell me the steps to see if its locked, or not and can someone
tell me how to unlock remotely or with cable.

First of all you need to know what type of phone it is.

Is it a GSM based phone (uses SIM chips)? or is it CDMA based phone (no
SIM)?

If GSM based phone then try putting in different SIM chips, like one
from FIdo, then try one from Rogers. If those different SIMs work (the
phone loads normally), then it is already unlocked.

If not GSM based phone, then to a store like Bell World, they cancheck
if compatible with their networks if you provide them with SN. Customer
Service over the phone does not do this, you have to go into store.
