My wife's new V557 gives a Charging Complete message when the battery
is charged. My V551 doesn't. Was that a new feature of the V557, or
is something just not right with my V551?

Perhaps it depends on the firmware. My own V551, updated to the latest
firmware, gives Charging Completed.

Have same ownership combination in our family.

My v551 shows Charge Complete if I charge while the phone is powered
off. If powered on, I do not believe it shows Charge Complete.

Thanks John. My software is R47_G_08.17.0FR. Don't know how that
relates to the firmware. The V557 shows R4512_G_08.28.40R. It is
interesting that the V557 has a selected to Update Software. I don't
see that either on the V551.

I charge my v551j while powered on. I start with the flip open, so I can
see the word "charging" appear. Sometimes, it does not appear, unless I
wiggle the cable or replug. The connector is junk. Once I see "charging",
I gently close the lid, and verify that the battery indicator in the
outside display is flashing.

Next morning, I flip the lid open, and see the words "charge complete".

You can check the version you have by dialing *#9999#

You and John both seem to have newer software than mine. Can that be
updated by phone?

That was the problem. I just charged it OFF and the Charge Complete
message came on the screen. Now the question is what does that mean?
Fully charged, 80%, etc.?

Either:
(a) by sending it in to Motorola
(b) with a cable, appropriate software, and flash files
